3 Ways to Stay on Budget with the Costume Party Zone

October 11, 2017

On Halloween I think it is very easy to go overboard!  Who’s with me?  Here’s how it always happens, you end up with multiple parties to attend, then there’s dressing up for work and purchasing candy to hand out on the actual day! The list never seems to end.

I wanted to discuss a few affordable options using the Salvation Army Thrift Stores Costume Party Zone.  I am very lucky to be working as  Creative Expert with the Salvation Army Thrift Store and before this I didn’t know they had a Costume Party Zone!  You can find anything you need for your Halloween festivities from décor to costumes to wigs and more!

3 WAYS TO STAY ON BUDGET WTIH THE COSTUME PARTY ZONE.

* THE COSTUME| I recently went to the Costume Party Zone, as I have a Halloween party to attend and also wanted to find something to wear to work.  I am not a huge fan of going full out at work so wanted a piece I could wear over my every day clothes.  I was very excited to find both!  I spent a total of $15 for a full Halloween costume and a small piece to wear during my workday.  I will be posting my Halloween costumes later this month on the blog so keep an eye out for them!  All the items above and more were at the Costume Party Zone!

* THE DECOR | I was very surprised to find so many options at the Costume Party Zone.  I ended up buying some pumpkin lights, a full glow in the dark skeleton, a couple crows, a tombstone and a half dozen skulls all for $12.  We currently don’t have any Halloween décor so I am starting from scratch and was really happy to find all of these items at one store.  The lights were brand new and the other items were in very good condition. You have to remember with items such as these they are used for a couple weeks and then stored the rest of the year.

* THE DIY’s | Perhaps you are looking for a look that is more cohesive look, when shopping for secondhand items it’s a little harder so going the DIY route will help to create the look you are wanting.  A few options is using spray paint, which can transform your items in a matter of minutes.  Check out my DIY Skulls, it’s a really easy and affordable DIY to upcycle your Halloween décor with spray paint.  Or perhaps you want a theme with all ghosts, a really simple DIY would be to make ghosts out of sheets, a quick search resulted in 100’s of tutorials.

These are only a few ideas on how to use the Costume Party Zone at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.  Remember to start with a plan.  Whether you are looking for décor or a new costume, make your dream list and stick with it!  Make a budget!  It’s easy to overspend at the Costume Party Zone!

Want a new costume for Halloween?  Comment below with your dream costume idea and you could win a $20 gift certificate to the Salvation Army Thrift Store!  Winner selected Friday, October 20.

My dream costume is a little crazy, but ive always wanted to go as an octopus. Maybe a collection of toddler leggings stuffed would work. I just think it would be so fun to be something unexpected, but also slightly cuddly.

Sonja! That is such a great idea. I love the idea of using something like leggings to make the tentacles. It would definitely be unexpected!

If you had asked me if I could ever imagine waking If you had asked me if I could ever imagine waking up one new years day in the future with my handsome freckled husband in our beautiful home on a mountain and our adorable twin girls laughing, I would've said you were crazy. That's the stuff dreams are made of. My imagination was limited or rather in what I thought was a more realistic realm.

This past year has been beautiful in many ways and difficult in others. Having two newborns during COVID is something no one should have to go through, especially alone. We were very lucky to have the support of our parents and friends at certain times through the year and are ever so grateful for those instances.

I didn't think I would have a word for this year. Then as I washing baby bottles for the thousandth time, I thought is there a word for this year? Loud and clear the word came, FIERCE, then my mind was like, no, FUCKING FIERCE.

2020 was the year where I should've stepped into my power in so many ways. I actually told Mark the other day I missed my wild woman moment. In 2021 I'm taking it back and being the mama, partner, friend, self advocate I wish to be. I am going to show up the way I've always wanted to and without apologie.

I mean, really, after the craziness that was 2020 what do I have to lose?

#fuckingfierce
2020 you didn't look the way I had imagined. I tho 2020 you didn't look the way I had imagined. I thought we'd be surrounded by family and friends enjoying our tiny little newborns, going on play dates, learning to swim or walking to the library. Instead we were a little unit, the four of us. We had cuddles, long walks, lots of play, giggles, quiet time, kisses, reading, reading and more reading.

MOTHER was my word for 2020 and I was given the opportunity to sink into that fully. There were hard times and wonderful moments but looking back over it, I don't think I'd change a thing.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good morning. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good morning. Sometimes the most perfect moments are the ones unplanned. 2020 you were the biggest gift. You gave us time together, forced us to slow down and allowed us to simply be. We didn't have anywhere to go or reasons to dress up or dates in the calendar. In the moment that felt sad but looking back over it all (with the 10,000 photos and videos I captured) I will always cherish this year.

Our babies will never be babies again and we were able to soak up every precious moment.

Also, no, we did not go to the mall to have our photo taken with Santa. This is our living room. My Dad (Deda to Evie and Poppy) dressed up as Santa. I will treasure these photos for years to come. Our babies first Christmas and my Dad played Santa, cue the tears. If 2020 never happened I wouldn't have these photos. I'm so grateful I do.
Christmas is going to look a lot different this ye Christmas is going to look a lot different this year. Last year Mark and I lit a fire, sat around in our bathrobes, snacked all day and went to bed early.

We literally made a game plan yesterday. Haha. Evie and Poppy have a few presents from us and the grandparents but we felt it might be overwhelming for them so we thought about how to alleviate the chaos.

Here's the plan, open a few presents in the morning, have breakfast then a few more presents. Once they nap Mark and I will hide some old toys and introduce the new ones. Plus we will have time to sit down with a tea and open our gifts to each other.

How does your family let Christmas day play out? What did you do when your kids were really young (under a year)?
'Twas the night before, the night before Christmas 'Twas the night before, the night before Christmas and all through the house no one was stirring not even two small, tiny humans who want to eat everything in sight including but not limited to, ashes, wood, crumbs, faux tree branches, Christmas light bulbs, leaves, each other, shoelaces and any type of fluff.

This was our beautiful fireplace last year swipe to see the state its in this year. 👉 One day I'll have nice things again, one day.
Remember when we could gather and share a piece of Remember when we could gather and share a piece of pie? I can't wait for those days! ❤🍾🥧

Did you know I am an actor? You've probably seen me making funny faces or smiling big on your screen before and didn't realize it!

This commercial was so fun to make and I was paid to eat the most DELICIOUS pie!

Funny story about this commercial when it came out the characters name was Dessert Duty Judy and my moms name is Judy! 🤣

I'm editing this to add the hard work and dedication of @jayeriske and @principalstalent is the only reason I get to have fun like this!
Everyone is writing about shopping secondhand this Everyone is writing about shopping secondhand this year. At first I was like, ok influencers, really, now you're onto shopping secondhand. I can't be mad. It's good for everyone. People might start to consider where they take the items they no longer need. Selling items could be easier because there will be more people buying. Lastly it's good to keep items out of landfills and reduce the amount of waste. More people shopping secondhand means less purchasing of new items. All in all a win win.

I found these matching dresses on marketplace. I wanted something different but its hard to find two dresses! These were a little big so I took some time to alter them, happy with how they turned out and fingers crossed they fit next year!

Oh and big bonus they retail at Nordstrom for $55 EACH and I bought two for $20. 👭🏼
