Easy DIY: Painted Mirror

March 20, 2019
Diy upcycled mirror

Do you have a small piece of decor like a mirror or picture that seems outdated? There is a simple solution for changing up your decor or colours in your space, paint! Instead of painting the entire room, maybe updating a few small pieces will make a change, and it can be done on a budget.

I found this vintage mirror at Restore, it was in really great shape, didn’t have any chips, and the piece was really heavy. I was unsure of the colour since it was a reddish brown, so decided to upcycle the mirror with a new coat of paint.

Step by step on how to apply spray paint to a mirror or picture frame for your home.

Tape off edges of mirror

Step 1

Cover the mirror with plastic and tape off the edges.

Sand mirror edges before painting

Step 2

Lightly sand the mirror frame so the paint will adhere properly.

Step 3

Apply a light coat of paint on the frame and five minutes later apply another light coat. You may need a third coat it will depend on how evenly covered the surface is. I used Heirloom White from Rust-Oleum.

Step 4

If there are any imperfections or drips, lightly sand and spray again.

There are many pieces of decor that can be transformed with a simple coat of paint. Instead of buying something new, make a small investment in a can of spray paint, and see what you can create!
